<image:title>Blog - Reading the Room at Fintech Insider After Dark - Interconnectivity in banking within families is something that has seen great advancement during the reign of digital banking, not just from parents to children, but in providing cross-border payments to loved ones in other countries and managing accounts of those who need further support, through illness or addiction, among other circumstances. I was surprised to see around a third of the room raise their hands to confirm that they handle money for someone else, something I would have assumed would be much lower, but highlights the need for more family-based banking services.</image:title>

<image:caption>While there is debate as to what side of this situation you cast your opinion on, the panel and audience were largely in unison that regardless of your opinion on whether it was offensive, Monzo should have resolved the issue before it reached the financial ombudsman. As Helen Bierton said earlier on in the podcast, when speaking of her role at Lloyds “it’s a privilege and a responsibility to look after someone's money”, a notion that brings comfort to the everyday banking customer. With time to reflect on the conversation at the event and listen back after the podcast’s public release, I find myself asking, was this a declaration of privilege?</image:caption>

On 17 February 2026, the Chinese will usher in the Year of the Fire Horse, which is characterised by intense energy, rapid change and a strong drive for freedom and independence. Let’s hope the year ahead also brings bold action and transformation across the global Web3 sector. <image:caption>For the most part, I felt as though I spent the year living on a plane, constantly offsetting my carbon footprint while travelling to conferences that seemed increasingly far-flung. Markets that had barely been on my radar a few years ago suddenly became major engines of opportunity for Ecology Media. As we scaled our team, we welcomed clients from across the world. The UK - once the epicentre of fintech - plateaued in 2025, while opportunities flourished in the US, Argentina, Eastern Europe, India, Korea, Scandinavia, Switzerland, Africa and the Middle East.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Day Two Highlights at TOKEN2049 - Charles Hoskinson: Restoring Trust with Midnight</image:title>
<image:caption>Charles Hoskinson, Co-Founder of Input Output and Cardano, opened with a keynote that underscored blockchain’s role in rebuilding global trust. Introducing Midnight, he described it not simply as another layer 2 network but as a paradigm shift – a universal proof layer designed to merge privacy and public accountability. With Midnight, users can prove the authenticity of information, add privacy to multiple blockchains, and regain ownership of their identity and data. He argued that outdated systems such as AML and KYC could be modernised through blockchain-based proofs. This would enable compliance that’s both global and 24/7. Hoskinson also stressed that the blockchain ecosystem must beyond the tired narratives such as “Ethereum vs. Solana” - especially now that corporations and governments are embracing Web3.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Day Two Highlights at TOKEN2049 - Kevin Pang: The Next Phase – Emotion AI</image:title>
<image:caption>Shifting gears, Kevin Pang, Head of Business Development at Neura, explored the future of Emotion AI. He positioned emotional intelligence as the next leap in AI’s evolution. While generative AI has scaled reasoning and efficiency, its blind spots - from sarcasm to cultural nuance - still leave users unconvinced. Pang introduced Neura’s architecture, which includes longitudinal emotional memory, multimodal fusion, and cultural adaptation layers. He argued that emotional intelligence in AI is not an add-on but a system-level challenge. From therapy and elder care to retail recommendations and immersive gaming, emotionally coherent AI could transform industries — and critically, it will depend on decentralised intelligence rather than static, centralised datasets.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Day Two Highlights at TOKEN2049 - OG Labs: AI Without Limits</image:title>
<image:caption>A panel hosted by OG Labs explored how blockchain and AI can solve each other’s challenges. Ming Wu, Co-Founder and CTO, pointed out that AI’s centralisation and opacity could be countered by blockchain’s transparency and verifiability. Conversely, AI could simplify blockchain’s complexity for end-users, easing adoption. Jake Salerno, Head of Business Development, highlighted OG Labs’ decentralised compute solutions, dubbed Cloud3, which rival traditional cloud providers while offering more democratic control. Together, the panellists argued that AI and blockchain will scale more effectively when combined, creating an open and verifiable intelligence layer.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Day One Highlights at TOKEN2049 - The Trillion-Dollar Stablecoin Shift</image:title>
<image:caption>The morning began with a heavyweight panel on Stablecoins and the Trillion-Dollar Payments Shift, moderated by Jacquelyn Melinek, Founder and CEO of Token Relations. Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, said stablecoins are becoming a savings tool. Thirty-five percent of users now treat USD stablecoins like savings accounts. Seventy percent of transactions are already denominated in dollars. He pointed to cross-border payments – a $200 trillion market – as the fastest-growing use case, while stressing that stablecoins must be designed to meet local market needs rather than a one-size-fits-all model. Charles Cascarilla, Co-Founder and CEO of Paxos, echoed the transformative potential, describing this as the “golden age for stablecoins.” With regulatory frameworks like the recently passed “Genius Act,” he argued that programmable, instantaneous payment rails are reshaping finance. Stablecoins, he noted, are not replacements for deposits but a safer complement that lowers the marginal cost of financial products to nearly zero. Rob Hadick, General Partner at Dragonfly, emphasized the opportunities in emerging markets. Distribution, he said, will define which stablecoins succeed. As traditional banks digitise, stablecoins could increasingly eat into deposits, forcing incumbents to compete on efficiency and accessibility.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Another great session explored how zero-knowledge (ZK) technology and cloud infrastructure can jointly redefine trust for institutions. Moderated by Georgia Hanias, Founder of Ecology Media, the panel brought together Fahmi Syed (President, Midnight Foundation), Charles Hoskinson (Co-Founder of IOHK, Cardano, and Ethereum), James Tromans (MD of Web3 for Google), and Sebastien Guillemot (CTO, Midnight Foundation).</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Day One Highlights at TOKEN2049</image:title>
<image:caption>The discussion delved into how rational privacy can make data sharing more intentional - “like a lanyard at a conference; you don’t choose to wear one all the time, and it’s an intentional action when you reveal your name and company.” Panelists noted that Google will be sitting in the middle of Web2 and Web3, but to do so securely, it needs robust privacy infrastructure - that’s where Midnight comes in. Privacy chains themselves can be a source of risk, but with Google Cloud Platform’s trusted execution spaces, data can remain isolated from outside sources, making it a perfect partner for privacy-preserving networks.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Day One Highlights at TOKEN2049 - Midnight’s Vision for Rational Privacy</image:title>
<image:caption>Closing the day, Fahmi Syed, President of the Midnight Foundation, delivered a keynote on Moving Blockchain from Promise to Mass Participation. Introducing the concept of “rational privacy,” Syed described how Midnight is decoupling ownership from utility. With transactions powered by zero-knowledge proofs, the Midnight network allows selective disclosure while ensuring efficiency through its unique “dust” mechanism. Positioning Midnight as “blockchain-as-a-service,” he argued that future adoption will depend on scalable solutions that protect user rights while streamlining participation.</image:caption>

Ranked fourth overall, eShandi has disbursed over $11 million in loans since 2019 and now operates across four countries.
